The awards took place on Saturday March 14th 2015 at the Oasis Banqueting Hall London, UK.
The Afro pop artist used money gained from her first Canadian tour to kick-start The Missy BK Foundation in early 2014, through which she is giving the gift of education to five orphans selected from the Helping Hands Children’s Home Orphanage in Cameroon. She decided to come to the aid of these children who needed financial assistance to further their education. In taking this bold step, Missy BK has shown her wonderful passion for helping the less fortunate. What is most satisfying is the fact that these students have proven that they have what it takes to reach their full potential and become key players in creating a peaceful and successful Africa.
Missy BK Foundation launched on September 8th 2014, is a non-profit organization which has also donated a laptop to ACCESSLE childcare learning centre situated in Yaoundé, capital of Cameroon. This laptop is helping to facilitate computer education among the pupils and students in this institution as it provides an access to computer and online learning. The Missy BK Foundation also organized a Christmas party for over 40 orphans living in the Hotpec Orphanage in Buea, Cameroon during which Christmas gifts were given to all the children involved.
In a related event, Missy BK also organized a New Year Party for her sponsored children under the Missy BK Foundation. She also made sure gifts were also distributed to encourage them achieve their set academic goals.
It is in these lights that the singer was nominated and eventually deservedly won the Cameroonian Career Women Awards (CCWA) London, for Best Charity Act 2015.
According to the organizers, the Cameroonian Career Women Awards (CCWA) London was founded to recognize, appreciate, and encourage hard work or success among beneficiaries and aspirants. The Objective of this event therefore is to motivate, stir up or even create a passion for hard work and excellence among Cameroonian Women at home and abroad.
Speaking to African Celebrities Magazine about her award and Foundation, Missy BK thanked God and the Cameroon Career Women Awards Team in London UK for this recognition. She added:…
“I dedicate this Award to every fan, family and friends that nominated me, not leaving out my incredible mother, mama joy Nsang for standing by me through thick and thin. she made me to understand that I don’t need to have millions or thousands to help somebody, but to believe in the fact that even a dollar shared with someone in need, could make a huge difference in that person’s life. This is the method that the Missy BK Foundation is using. I don’t help these children because I have much; I do because I know exactly how it feels like to have nothing”.
It should be noted that the Missy BK Foundation partners with local community leaders, orphanages and educators in Cameroon to identify girls and boys who are gifted, eager to learn but are financially challenged. By finding and funding hard-working students from rural areas, they aim at achieving sustainable impact in these communities, especially when less privileged parents are unable to afford school tuition for their children. This basic support allows motivated students to immediately access higher quality education and set them on the track for success.
Through Missy BK Foundation, orphans can achieve educational support that includes merit-based scholarships, annual tuition fees, uniforms, personal supplies, and food and learning materials.
