The Ministry of Sports and Physical Education has signed a convention with the National Olympic and sports committee for the construction of an Olympic City in Obala, near Yaounde.
The convention was signed this Monday 20th April 2015 by Minister Adoum Garoua of Sports and Physical Education and the President of the National Olympic and Sports Committee, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum.
The Olympic City according to Minister Adoum Garoua will have training facilities for all sport disciplines as well as an office for sports federations.
It will be a replica of the Aspire Centre in the United Arab Emirates and will comprise a football stadium, an athletics track, a gymnasium and a big hall for basketball, volleyball, handball, taekwondo and others.
Minister Adoum Garoua said the Olympic City will also have a medical centre and a training centre for the reconversion of athletes.
The two signatories confirmed that the project is in line with President Paul Biya’s intent to professionalise sports and develop sports infrastructure in the country.
It is worth noting that the construction of the Olympic City could last some three to four years and will help improve sports and sporting facilities in the country which was the wish of the President of the Republic in his massage to the youths on the 11th of February 2015.
